Workshop or training for online teaching

Are members interested in having a short workshop or training session around issues - technical or pedagogical - that would help support or develop our online teaching practices? We're looking for: a) people (whether ESPLAT members or not) who have skills and ideas to share and could contribute to the workshop, and b) ideas for the kinds of things the workshop could focus on. What kind of workshop would be most useful? Please tell us! We can use this discussion thread to gather ideas.

Yes this would be very helpful! Particularly at the moment where there seems to be a bit of a midterm slump and students are feeling a bit overwhelmed - I would be interested in learning about how others are dealing with this to ensure teaching is still being delivered as effectively as possible.

Research into Zoom teaching

Is anyone else interested in, or already busy with, research into Zoom teaching? I'm thinking here of any kind of research where you're collecting data about teaching through use of video-conferencing software. Some of us in Linköping are about to embark on some data collection where we'll record online problem-based learning groups, and we're interested in understanding more about how students manage group work in this setting. Anyone else considering research in this area? We could use this as a space to share ideas and discuss potential collaboration.

That would be really interesting to see how it works out, Michael. The trick is to find the time to plan the research so that it does not interrupt the teaching too much; thankfully recording Zoom meetings is quite straight-forward from a practical perspective (there is a 'record' button) but of course the time will be needed to analyse the data afterwards! Lets see if anyone else is doing any Zoom research. I've heard discussions about this on Twitter recently, so some other social interaction researchers are already getting started. Exciting!
